Police Violence

For decades, community members in Phoenix have been fighting to expose the level of police violence community members experience at the hands of Phoenix Police. In 2024, the Department of Justice concluded a nearly three year investigation into civil rights violations by the Phoenix Police Department. While the findings of the DOJ report validated that reality, they failed to show the connection between the department’s use of force, what a person looks like, and where they live. These maps and dashboards give community members an opportunity to explore the magnitude of the violence, and how Black, Indigenous, Latine, poor people and working class people are more likely to experience it.
